Sky Dome Camps at Salkantay Trek
The scenic Salkantay route offers endless landscapes and ecosystems along the trail, which makes it truly magical. But can you imagine adding to this magic the comfort of a 3-star hotel in the middle of the mountains? Find out more about Sky Dome Campson the Salkantay trek
When you do the 5-day or 4-day Salkantay trek, many times the only way to spend the night is in camps with tents. Over the last few years, this has officially changed, as there is now the possibility to enjoy glamping and comfort even when you are far away. Now we will tell you about our Sky Domes in the mountains of Soraypampa and Collpapampa.
What are the Sky Domes Camps?
The Sky Domes are new and innovative camps that SAM Travel Peru is implementing along the Salkantay route. These camps allow you to enjoy an experience under the stars with the comfort of glamping.
Where are the Sky Domes Camps located at Soraypampa?
By having the camp in Soraypampa, you will have a shorter walking time to and from Humantay Lake on day 1 of your itinerary. Also, on day 2, you will walk a bit less to reach the Salkantay Pass, as you will be only about 3 hours uphill, compared to other camps that take almost 45 minutes more.
Collpapampa Sky Domes Camps
At this camp, you will walk a bit more on day 2 of your itinerary from the pass to the area, but you will shorten the distance for day 3, as the distance is reduced. In addition, as a bonus, you will have an exclusive view of the mountains.
What amenities will the Sky Domes have
As new and modern domes in the area, these camps will offer comforts that will make you feel like you are truly in a hotel of millions of stars.
Some of these are:
- Wi-Fi
- Hot water
- Sauna (Collpapampa)
- Hotel-style beds (not sleeping mats like in other places)
- Showers
- Dining areas
- Jacuzzi (Collpapampa)

How can you book this experience in the Sky Domes?
To enjoy the best experience and spend a night in the Sky Domes, you will have two options:
You can join one of our amazing Salkantay treks. With this route, you will sleep not just one night, but two nights in the camps: one night in Soraypampa and one night in Collpapampa.
You can also book the exclusive camps through platforms such as Booking.com or Airbnb. This option is ideal for people who do not want to do the full trek or simply want to stay in the mountains.
What other camps can I find along the route?
In addition to the Sky Domes, our service offers, on the last night in the mountains, the unique opportunity to sleep right in front of Machu Picchu. Where? You will stay in Llactapata, a campsite that places you among the clouds and allows you to be directly facing Machu Picchu.
At this location, you will not sleep in a tent, but in a lodge with comfortable beds and hot showers, almost the same level of comfort as the Sky Domes.
