To start the day trip to the Sacred Valley Tour starting from Ollantaytambo , we will pick you up from your hotel at 7:30 am and begin the tour with beautiful view of the surrounding Andean mountain scenery in the town of Ollantaytambo, considered the “Last living Inca City” with original Inca streets where people currently are still using.

First, we will visit the impressive and well-protected archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo with its royal bath, high terraces, temples, and explore the fascinating megalithic ruins, including the Temple of the Sun, etc. surrounded by towering mountain peaks and colorful valley (plus a view of a faraway glacier)!

Besides, from the top of the Inca fortress, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside, the town of Ollantaytambo itself and the Incan storehouses or ‘Qollqa’ built on the Pincuylluna mountain opposite the ruins. After exploring the ruins at Ollantaytambo in the Valley of the Incas.

Then we Will drive drive to the magnificent and incredible archaeological site of Moray, through spectacular Andean scenery, passing by yellow wheat fields, picturesque traditional villages and enjoying beautiful views of snow-capped mountains.

At Moray Inca ruins, your tour guide will show you around the three amphitheater-like terraced structures. This archaeological complex of Moray in the Sacred Valley; has been used as an agricultural laboratory in the Inca time, where agricultural crops such as potatoes, corn, quinoa, kiwicha, etc. were cultivated and acclimatized. It’s an incredible sight, and gives real insight into the genius of the Inca Empire.

After exploring the circular terraces of Moray, the next stop on our amazing journey through the magnificent Sacred Valley of the Incas will be at the Maras salt ponds, which was the main provider salt center to Cusco and it’s still even today for many communities around and the Sacred Valley, where locals still farm the salt by hands as the Incas used to do it centuries ago.

Afterwards, you will head towards Urubamba Town for lunch (lunch is not included). Following lunch, you will continue driving to Pisac Inca archaeological site. All along the way, we will be accompanied by the Vilcanota or Urubamba River, which flows next to the road.

Once you arrive to the Pisac Inca ruins, you will see impressive and massive crops terracing, which cover all the hillsides of the mountains, these terraces were built to keep producing products on any time or season a year as they were fed by irrigation aqueducts system.

The Pisac archaeological park is among the most intact ancient sites in Peru, and a perfect example of ingenious Inca architecture, and one of the most important Inca jewels within the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

After exploring the Inca city and enjoy the impressive views around. You will head down to visit the colorful local handcraft Pisaq Market, where artisans offer their ceramics, textiles, jewelry, Andean instruments, alpaca products, and souvenirs.

Take note: Pisac Market is optional if you don’t want to visit just skip it.

If our day adventure ends in Cusco, you will have an opportunity to visit a small alpaca/llama farm on the way to Cusco, a great place to get your perfect snapshot with these animals.

At the end of the day, we will drop you off at your hotel in Cusco or another location.

What you need to take for Sacred Valley Tour starting from Ollantaytambo?

  • Clothing: The weather in the Sacred Valley changes quickly, so bring a lot of layers to be prepared. Pack t-shirts and add warmth with long-sleeve clothing and a fleece jacket. Lightweight pants for hiking.
  • Footwear: Comfortable hiking shoes or athletic sneakers with good traction are perfect for walking up to and around the Inca archaeological complexes. Multi-day hikes you will definitely want the boots for ankle support.
  • Sun protection: Don’t forget your hat, glasses, and sunblock for sun protection.
  • Day excursions: When traveling outside Cusco for a day. Bring a daypack with snug straps to carry your water, camera, snacks and other personal belongings.
  • Rainy season: During the rainy season months, pack a waterproof jacket or a travel-size umbrella or plastic ponchos. Plastic ponchos are also available to buy in Cusco and the Sacred Valley.
  • Bottled wáter: It is not recommended to drink tap water in Peru. But staying hydrated is important for preventing altitude sickness.
  • Money: It is good to have small bills and coins in the Sacred Valley because market vendors and small stores may not have adequate change to break larger bills.
  • Snacks: Energy bars, candies, cookies, etc (you can also buy fresh fruits at one of the villages’ markets).
  • Insect repellent: There are mosquitoes in the secred valley.
  • Portable chargers: It is recommended to bring charger because phone batteries run out quicky.
